2012 CHATEAU CLARISSE – STEVEN SPURRIER FOR THE DECANTER : 16+/17

2012 Chateau Clarisse, Puisseguin Saint-Emilion.

Score : 16+

Dense red, young purple rim, already quite fragrant black fruits on the nose showing good natural concentration,  wild raspberries (Cabernet Franc) evident on the palate,  cruncy (croquant) fruit and good vineyard depth, combines earthiness and clarity of fruit with ripe tannins and crisp acidity that will enhance the fruit.  2015-22.     16+

2012 Vieilles Vignes.

Score : 17

Dense red, purple rim, rich velvety colour,  richer fruit than the above, more concentration but less immediate lift and charm, broader texture and more depth and tannins are denser but also very ripe, natural acidity adds to the persistence, an altogether deeper, more robust wine with fragrance and depth of fruit that is rare in this appellation, but it will need time to open up.  2016-24.
