THE DECANTER – STEVEN SPURRIER 2011 TASTING NOTE : 15 / 15.5

2011 Chateau Clarisse

Score : 15

Fine depth of colour, youthful rim, attractive fragrance on the nose, red and black berries and some florality, still a bit green on the palate due both to youth and the vintage, tannins are dominant at the moment and the impression is greenness rather than ripeness,  with another year in bottle this wine will show lively charm, but it is not for the long term.  2014-18.  15.

2011 Vieilles Vignes.

Score : 15.5

Impressively dense red, still purple rim,  well-extracted and nicely concentrated black berry fruits on the nose with a lift from Cabernet Franc, quite broad and crunchy (croquant) but also a bit “chunky” from extra concentration in an unripe vintage, leading to an impression of greenness and rawness on the finish, there is good middle fruit that will emerge soon, but greenness will always be there.  2015-19.
