2011 CHATEAU CLARISSE – IAN DAGATA NOTATION : 88

Good medium ruby.  Enticing aromas of red cherry, blackberry and tobacco are lifted by a floral perfume.  Bright and juicy, showing a liqueur-like quality to its red fruit flavors.  The bright flavors of dark berries, menthol, herbs and spices show a suave texture and are nicely lifted by bright acidity.  The sweet, smooth finish lingers nicely.  Puisseguin St-Emilion is a little-known appellation that deserves more attention: although its soils are less fine than those of Saint-Georges (especially) or Montagne St-Emilion, the heart of the area is topnotch and many properties there have the potential to make very good or even outstanding wines.
