WINE SPECTATOR 2011 – Score : 85-88

CHÂTEAU CLARISSE Puisseguin-St.-Emilion 2011 Score: 85–88

Clean and fresh, with good cherry pie and blackberry fruit and a touch of toasted spice. A little loose in the end, but fresh enough.

Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 2011

Takes a slightly toasty approach, with mocha and sweet spice notes leading the way, followed by medium-weight plum and blackberry fruit. Shows a slightly raisined edge on the finish.

by James Molesworth – April, 10 2012

Editor’s note: Wine Spectator senior James Molesworth is in Bordeaux to taste the 2011 vintage from barrel to determine the quality and character of the young wines, in order to inform wine lovers who may be considering buying them en primeur, or as futures.

While spending a few weeks in the region, Molesworth visits numerous châteaus, interviews many vintners and evaluates hundreds of wines, some at the châteaus and most in blind tastings organized by Wine Spectator at independent locations. This list contains all 2011 Bordeaux red wine barrel samples reviewed, listed by appellation.

As these are unfinished wines, they are scored in four-point ranges (e.g., 89–92 points) to indicate that the ratings are still preliminary. (Any wines tasted non-blind at châteaus are clearly indicated in the notes.) When the wines are released in bottle, they will be reviewed with their peers in blind tastings and given a final score.
